Laboured breathing, open-mouth breathing in cats, choking, or blue/pale gums.

Vehicle accidents, falls from height, bite wounds, or any significant physical trauma.
Ingestion of rat poison, chocolate, medications, cleaning agents, toxic plants, or antifreeze.
Repeated vomiting or retching, especially with blood, lethargy, or inability to keep food/water down.
Straining for more than 30 minutes without delivery, green/black discharge, or visible distress during labour.
Straining to urinate with little or no output - especially dangerous in male cats. This is a life-threatening emergency.
Sudden weakness, fainting, inability to stand, or unresponsiveness. Could indicate internal bleeding or organ failure.

Speak softly. Minimise movement. Wrap your pet gently in a blanket or towel if they're in pain to prevent biting.
Apply gentle, firm pressure with a clean cloth. Do not use tourniquets. If a bone is exposed, cover loosely - do not attempt to reset it.
If poisoning is suspected, bring the packaging or a photo. Note the time symptoms started and any recent changes in diet or environment.
